I want to provide some shade for the south side of our house to shade the house. It is a 1 story house (about 15' high at the top) with the south side being about 40' long. There is about 10' between the house and the block wall. We have a drip system in the area. The house siding is made of wood. The soil is the typical clay and I might be able to add some soil amenities, but because of the drip system being pretty shallow, I can't do too much. I had also planned on putting down landscape fabric and gravel/rocks. There are two windows and a door on that side as well.
What would you recommend? Some vines? What about a tree or two? I don't want to have problems with the roots causing problems with the block wall, house, or pool (10' away). Can post a picture tomorrow, if it would be helpful. Thanks for your help. Michael |

Ten foot is fairly narrow to grow something tall like a tree and 40 foot long is a good stretch, so that seems to leave a plant that can be grown narrow and upright..
Italian Cypress comes to mind, planted on 6 foot centers. -------------------- Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
